Yellow Neon Yellow Eyes Starter Colony
💧 Tap Water Compatible
🟢 Beginner Friendly
🇮🇪 Home-bred in Cork, Ireland
🌱 Classic Line
Yellow Neon Yellow Eyes (*Neocaridina davidi*) is one of our brightest and most eye-catching lines, combining vivid lemon-yellow colouration with matching luminous yellow eyes.
☀️ Mature females can undergo a secondary growth spurt between 10 and 12 months of age, with some individuals reaching an impressive 4 cm in length.
🦐 Why start with 15 shrimp?
Our 15-count Breeder Colony is ideal for hobbyists who want to establish a thriving population from day one.
Starting with a larger group encourages natural behaviour, improves the likelihood of obtaining a balanced sex ratio and often results in earlier breeding activity.
🏡 For many aquariums, 15 shrimp represent the ideal balance between affordability and long-term colony success.
🦐 Why start with 25 shrimp?
If your goal is to establish a long-term, self-sustaining colony, this is our recommended starting point.
A larger population establishes itself faster, displays more natural behaviour and often enters stable breeding cycles sooner than smaller groups.
🧬 The increased numbers also provide a stronger foundation for maintaining colour consistency over future generations.
🌱 The 25-pack is particularly well suited for larger aquascapes and hobbyists who want to create a showcase colony from the very beginning.

🧬 The Story Behind Yellow Neon Yellow Eyes
A closer look at the history, genetics and unique growth characteristics behind one of our brightest lines.
🌏 The Evolutionary Roots of Neocaridina
Neocaridina davidi originates from freshwater streams, ponds and slow-moving rivers throughout East Asia.
Over thousands of years, these shrimp adapted to moderately hard, mineral-rich waters and developed remarkable resilience to environmental fluctuations.
💡 This natural adaptability is one of the reasons Neocaridina thrive so well in established tap water aquariums.
☀️ What Makes Yellow Neon Special?
Yellow Neon shrimp were selectively bred to intensify yellow pigmentation while maintaining the hardiness that makes Neocaridina so enjoyable to keep.
The result is a bright, energetic shrimp that immediately stands out in planted aquariums.
Their matching yellow eyes further enhance their appearance and create a very cohesive colour pattern.
🦐 The "Super-Female" Growth Spurt
One of the most fascinating characteristics of this line is the development of exceptionally large females.
Between approximately 10 and 12 months of age, some females undergo a secondary growth spurt.
While standard Neocaridina usually remain smaller, these "super-females" can reach impressive sizes of up to 4 cm.
💡 This makes them particularly noticeable in larger aquascapes and community shrimp tanks.
🧪 Our Breeding Philosophy
At Just Keep Shrimping, we selectively breed for four priorities:
✅ Bright yellow pigmentation
✅ Strong yellow eye expression
✅ Robust health
✅ Long-term genetic stability
We prioritise healthy, sustainable lines over extreme appearance.
🏡 Aquarium Recommendations
Yellow Neon Yellow Eyes thrive in:
🌱 Mature planted aquariums
🪨 Dark substrates
💧 Stable tap water parameters
🦠 Established biological filtration
💡 Dark substrates create excellent contrast and allow their bright yellow colouration to truly shine.
