Our Story: From Hobby to Shrimp Room Science
The story behind Just Keep Shrimping

Our Story
Just Keep Shrimping began with a simple question: why do some shrimp colonies thrive while others struggle? That question grew into a deeper interest in genetics, microbiology, water chemistry, and selective breeding. Today, every colony is maintained with a focus on long-term health, genetic stability, and responsible selection rather than short-term production. We believe better results come from understanding the biology behind the aquarium. By combining scientific thinking with practical experience, we strive to produce shrimp that are healthy, vibrant, and ready to thrive in their new homes.
What began as a hobby gradually evolved into a dedicated shrimp room full of breeding projects, experiments and countless observations. Over time, we discovered that long-term success rarely comes from chasing numbers — it comes from building stable ecosystems and understanding the animals themselves.
We created this website to share that journey with other hobbyists. Some projects are established favourites, while others are still developing behind the scenes. Every tank teaches us something new, and every generation helps us refine the lines we maintain.
The Science Behind Our Hobby
Our backgrounds in genetics and microbiology give us a unique perspective, but we still approach this as hobbyists first. Science simply helps us understand what works, make better decisions and build stronger, healthier colonies over time.
One lesson we've learned is that mature aquariums matter far more than chasing perfect numbers. Rather than constantly adjusting parameters, we focus on building stable ecosystems rich in biofilm, beneficial bacteria and natural food sources where shrimp can truly thrive.
Selective breeding is an important part of what we do, but health always comes first. By combining careful observation with long-term selection, we aim to produce animals that are not only beautiful, but also robust, stable and enjoyable to keep.
