GARNELEN4YOU® Carny Sticks | high-protein main food

GARNELEN4YOU® Carny Sticks are a protein-rich main food for Neocaridina and Caridina shrimp, as well as crayfish and aquarium snails.

Developed by biologist and shrimp breeder Dr. Philipp T. Baumann, the formulation combines high-quality animal protein sources from krill, Artemia and insects with selected plant proteins, herbs, algae, yeasts and natural mineral sources. It provides 39.9% crude protein and is designed for periods of increased protein demand, including growth, reproduction, berried females, developing juveniles and aquariums with limited natural biofilm.

Carny Sticks also provide natural sources of omega-3 fatty acids, vitamin D, chitin, cholesterol, beta-glucan and astaxanthin. The recipe contains no fish meal, cereal meal or chemical additives. The sticks soften gradually in the aquarium, allowing several shrimp to graze from the same portion.

Use as part of a varied feeding routine:

  • For Caridina, alternate with Planty Sticks.

  • For Neocaridina, alternate with Planty Sticks and Neo Algae Sticks.

  • Feed more frequently for Amano shrimp, tiger shrimp, berried females or fast-growing juveniles where additional protein is required.

Feeding guide: Feed approximately 1 cm of stick for every 20 adult shrimp, two to three times per week. Offer only as much as can be consumed within a few hours.

Pack size: 30 g
Analytical constituents: 39.9% crude protein, 9.0% crude fat, 18.5% crude ash and 7.0% crude fibre.

Made in Germany and supplied in a resealable protective pouch made largely from renewable materials.

More Information

A protein-rich main food developed specifically for shrimp

GARNELEN4YOU® Carny Sticks are a complete, protein-rich food developed for Neocaridina and Caridina shrimp, crayfish and aquarium snails.

The recipe was created by biologist and shrimp breeder Dr. Philipp T. Baumann using scientific literature, laboratory analysis and practical testing in GARNELEN4YOU’s own shrimp-breeding facility. It is formulated around the nutritional metabolism of freshwater shrimp rather than adapted from conventional fish food.

Carny Sticks are particularly useful when the animals have an increased protein requirement. This can include:

  • rapidly growing young shrimp;

  • berried females;

  • breeding colonies;

  • Amano and tiger shrimp;

  • tanks with limited natural biofilm;

  • colonies showing slow growth or limited reproduction.

They can also be used as a regular part of the main feeding rotation for healthy adult shrimp.

Carefully selected animal and plant ingredients

The formulation contains 16 ingredients and combines premium animal protein sources from krill, Artemia and insects with plant protein sources, vegetables, herbs, algae, yeasts, oils, fats and natural minerals.

This combination provides a broad nutritional profile, with particular emphasis on:

  • high-quality protein and amino acids;

  • animal-derived omega-3 fatty acids;

  • natural vitamin D;

  • chitin;

  • cholesterol;

  • beta-glucan;

  • astaxanthin and other carotenoids;

  • minerals required for moulting and shell formation.

These nutrients are intended to support growth, fertility, reproduction, colour, vitality, successful moulting and stable exoskeleton development.

High protein without fish meal or cereal meal

Carny Sticks contain 39.9% crude protein, making them the protein-focused element of the GARNELEN4YOU feeding system.

Despite the high protein content, the recipe contains no fish meal, cereal meal, questionable sugar sources or added chemical ingredients. Instead, its nutrients come from natural animal, plant, algal and mineral sources.

The product is therefore suitable for keepers who want a protein-rich food while avoiding formulas based heavily on fish meal, grain fillers or synthetic additives.

Designed for flexible feeding

Carny Sticks are intended to be combined with the other GARNELEN4YOU main foods rather than fed according to a rigid, single-food routine.

For Caridina shrimp, alternate Carny Sticks with Planty Sticks.

For Neocaridina shrimp, alternate Carny Sticks with Planty Sticks and Neo Algae Sticks.

This modular approach allows the keeper to adjust the balance between animal protein, plant ingredients and algae according to the species, life stage and current condition of the colony.

Carny Sticks may be offered more frequently when:

  • there are many berried females;

  • juveniles are growing rapidly;

  • the aquarium contains Amano or tiger shrimp;

  • the tank has relatively little natural grazing material;

  • the keeper wants to temporarily increase the protein content of the diet.

For Caridina varieties with a high proportion of white pigmentation, such as Red Bee, PRL and Fancy Tiger shrimp, the manufacturer recommends alternating Carny Sticks with Mineral Sticks.

Feeding recommendation

Feed approximately 1 cm of stick for every 20 adult shrimp, two to three times per week.

For Caridina, alternate with Planty Sticks. For Neocaridina, alternate with Planty Sticks and Neo Algae Sticks.

Adjust the amount for smaller shrimp, smaller colonies or tanks with abundant natural biofilm. It is preferable to feed smaller portions more often rather than give too much food at once.

Only offer as much as the shrimp can consume within a few hours. The sticks are designed to soften at a balanced rate—not too quickly and not too slowly—so multiple shrimp can feed from the same piece. Any remaining food should be removed after no more than two days.
