A nutrient-rich green food for shrimp

GARNELEN4YOU® Barley Grass Sticks are a pure single-ingredient complementary food made entirely from gently processed young barley grass.

Young barley grass is valued for its unusually broad range of naturally occurring micronutrients. It offers a simple way to introduce additional plant-based variety into the feeding routine of Neocaridina and Caridina shrimp, crayfish and aquarium snails.

The formulation was selected as part of the GARNELEN4YOU® feeding range developed by biologist and shrimp breeder Dr. Philipp T. Baumann.

A broad source of natural micronutrients

Young barley grass naturally provides:

• vitamins;

• minerals;

• trace elements;

• plant enzymes;

• dietary fibre;

• plant-based nutrients.

The plant enzymes and fibre may support digestion and help the animals make effective use of nutrients from their wider diet. This makes Barley Grass Sticks particularly useful as an occasional addition to a varied feeding routine.

Suitable for adult and baby shrimp

As adult shrimp graze on the sticks, small food particles naturally spread through the aquarium.

These fine particles can settle across moss, plants, substrate and hardscape, allowing smaller juveniles and baby shrimp to access the food without competing directly with larger animals around the main portion.

Barley Grass Sticks are not a dedicated baby food and do not replace GARNELEN4YOU® Baby Powder, but their dispersing texture can provide useful supplementary nutrition for young shrimp.

100% young barley grass

The formulation contains only young barley grass.

It contains no fillers, preservatives or other unnecessary chemical additives. This gives shrimp keepers a clear, straightforward single-ingredient food and makes it easier to vary the plant sources included in the diet.

Natural grazing and good acceptance

The sticks are designed to soften gradually in the aquarium, allowing several shrimp or snails to graze from the same portion.

Their stick format makes them easy to portion, while the gradual release of fine particles helps distribute the food beyond the immediate feeding area.

Feeding recommendation

Feed approximately 1 cm of stick for every 20 adult shrimp every 1–2 days, alternating with other suitable GARNELEN4YOU® foods.

Barley Grass Sticks may occasionally be offered instead of one regular main feeding in the same approximate amount. However, they are a single-ingredient complementary food and should not permanently replace Carny Sticks, Planty Sticks or the appropriate GARNELEN4YOU® main-food rotation.

Adjust the amount according to:

• colony size;

• shrimp size;

• the quantity of natural biofilm;

• the number of juveniles and snails;

• how quickly the previous portion was consumed.

Feed only as much as the animals can reasonably consume. Remove any remaining food after no more than two days.

GARNELEN4YOU® Barley Grass Sticks are produced regionally in Germany and supplied in a resealable protective pouch made largely from renewable materials. Packaging is carried out in cooperation with workshops for people with disabilities.
