Fine food for baby and juvenile shrimp

Newly hatched shrimp have different feeding requirements from adults. Their small size, limited mobility and frequent moulting mean they need very fine food that reaches them wherever they are grazing.

GARNELEN4YOU® Baby Powder was developed by biologist and shrimp breeder Dr. Philipp T. Baumann specifically for this early stage of development. The powder is finely micronised so that it spreads through the aquarium and settles across plants, mosses, substrate and hardscape. This allows young shrimp to feed without having to gather around a single food stick.

Designed for growth, moulting and shell development

Baby and juvenile shrimp require a steady supply of protein, fats, minerals and structural nutrients to support rapid growth and repeated moulting.

The formulation combines high-quality animal and plant proteins with algae, herbs and mineral sources. It provides:

• a balanced amino-acid and fatty-acid profile;

• omega-3 fatty acids;

• natural vitamin D;

• chitin;

• cholesterol;

• beta-glucan;

• astaxanthin;

• minerals used in shell formation.

These nutrients are intended to support healthy growth, stable moulting, exoskeleton development, vitality, colour formation and later reproductive fitness.

Reaches young shrimp throughout the aquarium

Unlike a solid stick, Baby Powder disperses throughout the tank. This is particularly useful because newly hatched shrimp often remain close to their hatching area and may not travel far to find food.

The fine particles reach sheltered areas such as:

• mosses;

• dense plants;

• leaf litter;

• substrate;

• wood and stone surfaces;

• filter-safe grazing areas.

This helps reduce competition between larger and smaller animals and gives more juveniles access to food.

High-protein natural formulation

Baby Powder contains 43.9% crude protein, making it the most protein-rich product in the GARNELEN4YOU main-food range.

The composition includes molluscs and crustaceans, vegetables, algae, insects, minerals, yeasts, oils and fats. The formulation contains no fish meal, cereal meal, questionable sugar-rich fillers or unnecessary chemical additives.

The manufacturer developed the recipe using scientific research, laboratory analysis and ongoing testing in its own shrimp-breeding facility.

Suitable species

GARNELEN4YOU® Baby Powder is suitable for:

• Neocaridina shrimp;

• Caridina shrimp;

• bee shrimp;

• tiger shrimp;

• Caridina hybrids;

• Sulawesi shrimp;

• Amano shrimp;

• fan shrimp;

• crayfish and aquarium snails.

It can be used for newly hatched shrimp as well as growing juveniles.

Feeding recommendation

Feed approximately 0.05–0.1 g, equivalent to ½–1 dosing spoon, once or twice per week per 30–100 litres of aquarium water.

The exact amount depends on:

• the number of baby shrimp;

• their age and size;

• the quantity of natural biofilm;

• tank volume;

• how much other food is being offered.

Where possible, offer the powder at a different time from the main sticks so young shrimp have access to it without competing with adults.

Feed sparingly. Dust food spreads widely, so it is easy to add more than the shrimp require. Smaller portions offered more frequently are preferable to one large dose. Excess powder may be consumed by harmless accompanying organisms such as copepods, worms and snails.

Example feeding routine

For a 30-litre aquarium containing approximately 30 mixed-size shrimp and around 30 babies:

Option 1 — less frequent feeding

Feed around 1 cm of the appropriate main stick every second day. Add ½ dosing spoon of Baby Powder once per week on a day when no stick is fed.

Option 2 — smaller daily portions

Feed around 0.5 cm of the appropriate main stick each day. Add ¼ dosing spoon of Baby Powder twice per week at a different time from the stick feeding.

For Neocaridina, rotate Carny, Planty and Neo Algae Sticks. For Caridina, rotate Carny and Planty Sticks.
