Blue Dream Orange Eyes Starter Colony
๐ง Tap Water Compatible
๐ข Beginner Friendly
๐ฎ๐ช Home-bred in Cork, Ireland
Blue Dream Orange Eyes (*Neocaridina davidi*) combines the rich sapphire-blue body of the Blue Dream line with the striking contrast of glowing orange eyes.
๐ต These shrimp are known for their vibrant colouration and exceptional visibility in planted aquariums.
๐ฆ Why start with 15 shrimp?
Our 15-count Breeder Colony is ideal for hobbyists who want to establish a thriving population from day one.
Starting with a larger group encourages natural behaviour, improves the likelihood of obtaining a balanced sex ratio and often results in earlier breeding activity.
๐ก For many aquariums, 15 shrimp represent the ideal balance between affordability and long-term colony success.
๐ฆ Why start with 25 shrimp?
If your goal is to establish a long-term, self-sustaining colony, this is our recommended starting point.
A larger population establishes itself faster, displays more natural behaviour and often enters stable breeding cycles sooner than smaller groups.
๐งฌ The increased numbers also provide a stronger foundation for maintaining colour consistency over future generations.
๐ฑ The 25-pack is particularly well suited for larger aquascapes and hobbyists who want to create a showcase colony from the very beginning.

๐งฌ The Story Behind Blue Dream Orange Eyes
A closer look at the history, genetics and husbandry behind one of our favourite blue lines.
๐ The Evolutionary Roots of Neocaridina
Neocaridina davidi originates from freshwater streams, ponds and slow-moving rivers throughout East Asia.
Over thousands of years, these shrimp adapted to moderately hard, mineral-rich waters and developed remarkable resilience to environmental fluctuations.
๐ก This natural adaptability is one of the reasons Neocaridina thrive so well in established tap water aquariums.
๐ต What Makes Blue Dream Special?
Blue Dream shrimp were developed through years of selective breeding from darker blue and black lineages.
The goal was to create a shrimp with a rich sapphire-blue appearance while maintaining the hardiness for which Neocaridina are famous.
Unlike lighter blue varieties, Blue Dream shrimp display deeper, more saturated colouration.
๐ The Orange Eye Trait
Orange eyes are an uncommon recessive mutation that creates a beautiful contrast against the blue body colour.
The combination of deep blue pigmentation and bright orange eyes creates a particularly striking appearance that stands out in planted aquariums.
Maintaining both traits consistently requires ongoing selective breeding.
๐งช Our Breeding Philosophy
At Just Keep Shrimping, we selectively breed for four priorities:
โ Rich blue pigmentation
โ Strong orange eye expression
โ Robust health
โ Long-term genetic stability
We prioritise healthy, sustainable lines over extreme appearance.

Customer Reviews
They hid a little after rehoming, which gave me a fright. All back to their happy, thriving, selves now, having babies, and flying around fearlessly.
